Supreme Court to Hear Challenge to Compelled Union Dues in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association
Today the Supreme Court granted cert in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association. The case was brought by several California teachers who object to being forced to pay dues to several unions that take positions irrespective of the teachers’ own interests. I filed an amicus brief in the case in support of cert, so it’s good to see the Court again taking interest in the civil rights issues of compelled speech and compelled association. The plaintiffs in the case are represented by Michael Carvin and the crack appellate team at Jones Day. Congratulations and good luck to all.
