Statement from Wendy Long, Chief Counsel, Judicial Confirmation Network
"The attacks against Judge Roberts hit a new low with the NARAL television ad, which even The New York Times said requires an apology from NARAL. American women, no different from American men, want and expect Judge Roberts to be treated with the same courtesy, civility, and respect for the independence of the judiciary that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O'Connor were afforded during their confirmation proceedings in the U.S. Senate. To treat Judge Roberts differently from Justice Ginsburg would impose a double standard -- something American women do not like.
"From his record and writings, it is clear Judge Roberts will faithfully and impartially apply the law as a Supreme Court Justice. He shows a respect for the text and principles of the Constitution, upholding the rights and provisions that it contains and refraining from inventing others that it does not. This shows true respect for all American citizens and is consistent with his attitude of humility and public service," said Wendy Long, chief counsel to the Judicial Confirmation Network and a former law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
