Judicial Confirmation Network counsel Wendy E. Long made the following comments this morning:
"Unfortunately, the hearings that open today are as much about the behavior of the extreme liberal Democrats as they are about Judge Roberts. Most Americans don't approve of conduct like that of Howard Dean, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, and Ted Kennedy, who are attacking Judge Roberts to raise money, get themselves in front of TV cameras, and politicize the Senate Judiciary committee proceedings by exploiting the national tragedy of Hurricane Katrina.
"Reasonable, fair-minded Democrats should prevail on their more extremist Senate colleagues to back off these inappropriate tactics. Judge Roberts is not a political candidate, and this is not a campaign. He has been nominated by the President to the highest judicial office in our land and has sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution, which he will no doubt do, both in these proceedings and beyond. Grandstanding, deception, and cavalierly playing politics with the human tragedy wrought by the hurricane will not endear Senate Democrats to the American people."
