Long. "It asks the President to do as President Bush did at the outset of his administration, by re-nominating several holdover judicial nominees by the prior administration of the other party, and to respect traditional Senate courtesy in allowing home state Senators to decide whether to clear a nominee before the nominee moves forward in the Senate confirmation process."In both of these matters, Republicans are only asking for fairness and reciprocal treatment. The letter makes clear that if the Administration and Senate Democrats do not engage in such bipartisan reciprocity, the Republicans will be united in their unwillingness to tolerate such hypocrisy and raw partisanship particularly after the statements that President Obama made on the campaign trail about how he intended to nominate judges who indulge their own personal beliefs and values in deciding cases, instead of making judgments based on the law. The American people disagree with the 'Obama Standard' of judging by a margin of 3 to 1, and we expect they want Obama judicial nominees to be carefully scrutinized in a process based on transparency, fairness, and reciprocity."The Senate Republicans' letter to the President is here. For more information, and to schedule an interview with Ms. Long, contact Megan Erhardt at 703-683-5004, ext. 136 ###See Also:Republicans: How About Re-Nominating Peter Keisler?
