SCOTUS Reverses Sotomayor’s Race Case
Court Rejects Racial Preferences
PHILADELPHIA, PA: The Supreme Court of the United States reversed the controversial decision of Judge Sonia Sotomayor in Ricci v. DeStefano today, thus rejecting racial preferences in America’s workplaces.
“Today’s landmark decision reversing Judge Sotomayor is a tremendous victory for merit-based advancement in America,” said Pennsylvania Judicial Network spokesperson Athan Koutsiouroumbas.
“Judge Sotomayor’s liberal judicial philosophy was roundly rejected by the Court,” said Koutsiouroumbas, “The Court made it clear that it was wrong for Judge Sotomayor to promote reverse discrimination under any circumstances.”
“No decision can give us a better view of Judge Sotomayor’s judicial philosophy than the rejected decision in Ricci vs. DeStefano,” said Koutsiouroumbas, “Judge Sotomayor’s judicial activism was rejected by the Court where she hopes to sit this fall.”
“The definitive decision rightly raises the question of whether Judge Sotomayor has the proper temperament to sit on the Court,” said Koutsiouroumbas, “With the Supreme Court rejecting her ‘identity politics,’ the United States Senate must ask the tough questions of Judge Sotomayor to ensure she will interpret the law within the confines of the Constitution, not make her own laws based on her personal experiences."
“With over 60% of Judge Sotomayor’s decisions being reversed and all nine Supreme Court Justices siding against her reverse discrimination decision in Ricci, it seems as though Judge Sotomayor is far outside of the mainstream,” said Koutsiouroumbas, “With her poor track record on the lower courts, does Judge Sotomayor have a record worthy to merit promotion to the Supreme Court?”
“Pennsylvanians must urge Senators Specter and Casey to inspect Judge Sotomayor’s full record and make certain that Judge Sotomayor will respect the Constitution and American values,” said Koutsiouroumbas.
The Pennsylvania Judicial Network (PJN) is a coalition of citizens joined together to educate Pennsylvanians on the Federal Courts and its nominees. In partnership with the Judicial Confirmation Network (www.judicialnetwork.com), the PCN works to ensure that the confirmation process for all judicial nominees is fair and that every nominee sent to the full Senate receives an up or down vote.
