The Supreme Court abandoned common sense today and bowed to a scare campaign about a phony issue. As Justice Thomas noted: “Our only role in this case is to decide whether the Secretary complied with the law and gave a reasoned explanation for his decision. The Court correctly answers these questions in the affirmative. … That ought to end our inquiry.”
The citizenship question on the 2020 census form is an unremarkable return to historic practice, but a one-vote majority on the court put identity politics and attacks on the very notion of citizenship ahead of the rule of law.
