  • Leading the DOJ’s Civil Division—the DOJ’s largest litigating Division—since Inauguration Day, Mr. Readler has supervised and overseen the Division’s litigation matters, and personally briefed and argued cases in several federal district courts and courts of appeal across the nation.
  • During Mr. Readler’s 19-year tenure at Jones Day, he was a member of the firm’s Issues and Appeals practice group, and argued cases before the Supreme Court and various federal circuit courts of appeal.He also maintained a robust pro-bono practice, and prevailed before the Supreme Court in McQuiggin v. Perkins, 569 U.S. __ (2013), which held that a showing of actual innocence stands as an exception to the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act’s (AEDPA) statute of limitations in federal habeas cases.
